Svilengrad-Turkish Border Rail Line Starts Operation May 9

This is the first entirely completed railway project within OP Transport 2007 – 2013 in Bulgaria

On the Day of Europe, May 9, the first entirely completed railway project within OP transport in Bulgaria – the rail line from Svilengrad to the border with Turkey, will be inaugurated, Bulgarian ministry of transport announced today.
The official ceremony will take place at the railway station of the checkpoint of Kapitan Andreevo.
The total cost of the new railway track, which allows speed up to 160 km/h, amounts to BGN 70 m (about EUR 35 m). The project also encompassed the construction of a unique 433 m-long and 8 m-wide railway bridge over Maritsa River.
The electrification and reconstruction of the railway was carried out with co-funding from the Cohesion Fund of the EU and Operational Programme Transport 2007 – 2013. The Bulgarian National Railway Infrastructure Company was the beneficiary of the funding, while renovation works were carried out by Czech company OHL ZS A.S.
