Turkish prosecutor Mehmet Demir, who called on Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), to testify by mistake, has been re-appointed to the Edirne province until an investigation about him has been completed.

Prosecutor Demir has become a target of CHP after his statements about 17-25 December anti-graft operations against government loyalists, which Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called an attempted coup.

After CHP filed a complaint to the Supreme Board of Prosecutors and Judges (HSYK), an investigation was launched regarding Demir.

Istanbul’s Chief Prosecutor’s Office issued a written statement after a visit from CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

The displaced prosecutor Mehmet Demir first attracted attention due to criticizing the attitude of the HSYK after the 17-25 December operation. Demir, like Erdogan, had described the 17 December operation as an attempted coup.
